Workshop Led by Sandra Price: Reflecting on Our Disaster Mission Service
August 15, 2015 @ 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm
Event Navigation
Many churches from the Presbytery of Sheppards & Lapsley have served their own communities and far-away communities following disasters — the 2011 tornadoes, other tornadoes, Katrina, and more. Those who serve disaster survivors are impacted by the stories they hear, the scenes they witness, the work they do. This session will include a time for sharing stories of your disaster response experiences, reflection on how those experiences impacted you — emotionally, spiritually, and in others ways, reflection on scriptures related to disaster ministry. If you have photos or other mementos you’d like to bring, please do. Sandra will share her experience of groups from PSL coming to help her post Katrina.
A Katrina survivor who was blessed by the care of many churches from the Presbytery of Sheppards & Lapsley, Sandra is deeply involved in volunteering for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, teaching Disaster Emotional and Spiritual Care and leading retreats for those who serve survivors. Her recently-published book, Katrina’s Grace: Wind, Water & Wisdom, has several chapters about PSL teams who took care of her and her neighbors. She retired as pastor of First Presbyterian Church Livingston in 2004.
